Narendra Modi, who was to arrive in Bareilly for a rally early on Tuesday morning, was delayed at New Delhi Airport after aviation authorities did not permit his helicopter to take off.
Modi finally arrived nearly 2 hours late to the rally.
Modi, while addressing the gathering, said, “I apologise to you for arriving late as you had to sit in this heat. But this delay was not because of me. At the Delhi airport I sat from 9.30 am onwards, but our helicopter was not being given the permission to fly.”
He added that he has always tried to see to it that “nobody is inconvenienced because of him.
"But I am pained that you had to face this blistering sun,” he added.
"You are doing this penance in this heat, I assure you that I will never let this effort go waste," he told the gathering.
Was that a practical joke which was a ^^ part of the #Pappudiwas celebrations?

"US ambassador to India Nancy J Powell announced in a US mission town hall meeting on March 31 that she has submitted her resignation to President Obama and, as planned for some time, will retire to her home in Delaware before the end of May," an announcement in the US embassy website said tonight.
There was media speculation a week ago that Powell would be replaced with a political appointment as an attempt by the Obama administration to "clean the slate" with India.
The report had said Powell had dragged her heels on meeting Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi and was perceived as being "too close" to the UPA's foreign policy establishment.

If Narendra Modi were to become Prime Minister of India, he would automatically be eligible for an A-1 (diplomatic) visa as head of state, regardless of the purpose of his visit," the Congressional Research Service (CRS) said in its communication to US lawmakers.

An FIR has been registered against Union Steel Minister Beni Prasad Verma in Balrampur for calling BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi the "biggest goonda" of RSS and party's National President Rajnath Singh his "slave".
District Magistrate Mukesh Chandra today said, "Beni had termed Modi as a goon of RSS and said that Rajnath Singh was his slave."
Taking cognisance of the statement, the district administration has lodged an FIR at Sadullah Nagar police station for violating the Model Code of Conduct and has sent the report to the Election Commission as well.
Verma had on April 1 stoked a controversy by dubbing Narendra Modi as the "biggest goonda" (goon) of RSS as the language being used by him in elections is not normally used in democracy.
"Modi could not have become prime ministerial candidate without the nod of Rajnath Singh. This proves that Rajnath Singh is not the president of the party but Modi's slave (ghulam)," Verma had said.
Chandra said a code of conduct would be strictly followed and those violating it would not be spared.
This is the second case of violation of the model code by the Union Minister. Another case was lodged against him on March 31 in Gonda district for organising a roadshow in Tarabganj tehsil in which the number of vehicles was beyond perissible limit.

In another breather for BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, the Supreme Court on Friday refused to entertain a plea questioning the Special Investigation Team probe giving clean chit to the Gujarat Chief Minister in the 2002 riots.
Describing the plea as 'baseless', the apex court also declined the appeal to reconstitute SIT.
